Traveling With Pets

​​​​​ If you plan to travel with a pet you’ll have to contact EGYPTAIR’s reservation department and inform us about your request at least 48 hours before your departure date.

Live animals are not included in the free allowance.

EGYPTAIR accepts only cats, dogs and exceptionally falcons with passengers. Other than that must be shipped as cargo from the cargo Terminal.

N.B For transporting live animals (those accompanying the passengers ) from EGYPT to KSA need to be registered in Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water & Agriculture’s website (Anaam) via The link Here before travel.

The entry of commercial dogs into Canada from countries at high-risk for dog rabies ( including Egypt ) will be prohibited. While, the importation of personal pet dogs or assistance dogs originating from these countries will continue to be allowed as long as they meet all the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) import requirements and appropriate documentation according to This Link.

The following EGYPTAIR’s pet policy information will provide the answers to many common questions regarding the transportation of pets:

EGYPTAIR accepts live animals for carriage according to the following conditions:​

    • Dogs, cats when properly prepared and accompanied by a valid health vaccination certificate.
    • The Age of the live animal shall remain subject to custom regulations at the country of transit and destination.
    • Acceptance is subject to the condition that the passenger assumes full responsibility for such pet.
    • The weight of accompanied pets including the weight of containers and food carried shall not be included in the free baggage allowance of the customer.
    • For safety reasons, CUSTOMERS travelling with pets may not be seated in exit rows. 
    • The live animal will not be accepted up to the final destination as checked baggage if no reservation has been made for the connecting flight of another carrier.  
    • EGYPTAIR makes the final decision for accepting the pet and EGYPTAIR has the right to refuse the carriage of the live animal at any time, even after acceptance due to operational reason or the ventilation conditions are insufficient, accordingly EGYPTAIR has the right to offload the pet without any liability on EGYPTAIR.​
    • EGYPTAIR shall not be liable for the injury to or loss, delay, sickness or death of such pets or in the event that it is refused entry into or passage through any country state or territory
    • Pets remain subject to custom regulations at the country of transit and destination.
    • Passengers should carry sufficient food for his pets for the journey and during transit time.
  • Note: Live animals are not allowed For carriage as checked baggage or as pet in cabin to some countries such as the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Republic of Yemen, Kenya & To / From South Africa and should accepted only as cargo.

  • ​Live animals can only be transported to countries which permit such transport on the conditions stipulated and pursued by the country. 
  • In-case of connecting flight between EGYPTAIR and other carriers, EGYPTAIR will not accept the following brachycephalic (snub-nosed, short snout or flat face) animals as checked or unchecked baggage:
  • Dogs:
    Affenpinscher-American Bulldog-Pit Bull-Shar pei-Chow Chow-Shih Tzu-Lhasa Aps-Boston Terrier-Cane Corso-
    Pekinese-King Charles-Tibetan Spaniel-Japanese Chin-Brussels Griffin-Dogue De Bordeaux-Boxer (All Breeds)-
    American Staffordshire Terrier-American Pit Bull Terrier-Pug (All Breeds)-Bull Dog (All Breeds)-
    Staffordshire Bull Terrier-English Toy Spaniel-Mastiff (All Breeds except Great Danes).
    Cats:​Exotic-Himalayan-Persian-Burmese.
  • Note: customers  travelling with above mentioned pets on EGYPTAIR flights only will sign Animal Acceptance and Customer Acknowledgment Form at the airport.                                                         
    Your pet’s travel container:
    The carriage of live animals require certain container requirements in relation to the animal dimension and type.
    The cage must be leak/escape proof and large enough that the animal can stand in a natural position, turn around and lie down. 
    Please be informed that we don’t provide or purchase containers at the airport. 



EGYPTAIR accepts live animals as checked baggage or in the cabin as follows:

  • Cats & dogs are only permitted.
  • The total weight of animal and cage should not exceed 8 KG.
  • Cage maximum dimensions does should not exceed 55+40+20 cm(length, width, height).
  • Pet in cabin carriage is generally limited to one animal per cage, Exceptionally:
    oTwo pets can be accepted in the same Cage provided that they are cohabiting.
    oTwo pets travelling in one cage are counted and charged as one pet, on the condition that the total weight of the two animals plus the cage does not exceed the weight or the dimensions mentioned above.
  • Pet in cabin will be accepted on first come first served basis as the acceptance is restricted by two animals per cabin seating zone and any additional pet will be accepted as checked baggage ( inside the aircraft compartment ).
  • Falcons can be accepted according to EGYPTAIR regulations, for more information please contact nearest EGYPTAIR sales office or call center.
  • Pet travelling in the customer cabin must be carried in an approved hard or soft kennel.
  • Kennels must be leakage proof and well secured (prevent animal escape), and large enough that the animal can stand, turn around and lie down in a natural position. 
  • The pet must remain in the kennel while on board.
  • Pet in the cabin is not permitted for the following : 

o Customers using medical device that needs to be stowed underneath the seat.
o An unaccompanied minors.

  • Cats &dogs are only permitted.
  • The cage must be leak/escape proof and large enough that the animal can stand in a natural position, turn around and lie down.  ​
  • Only one animal per container is permitted, unless:
  • A maximum of two adult animals of a comparable size up to 23Kgs that are compatible, may be shipped in the same container.​
  • Animals up to six months old from the same litter up to 23Kgs, up to a maximum quantity of two may be shipped in the same container.
  • Animals over that weight (23Kgs) must travel individually and will be counted and charged as two pieces.
  • The live animal will not be accepted up to the final destination as checked baggage if no reservation has been made for the connecting flight of another carrier.
  • Recommended container size for all EgyptAir fleets 235 cm (100 + 65 + 70).
  • Only rigid containers with a secure door are acceptable.
  • A water container must be provided in each container.
  • Clean/leak proof/escape proof/well ventilated container made of fiberglass, metal, rigid plastic.
  • Rates apply per direction.
  • Note: Pets more than 32KG are not accepted to the following destinations: 
     1- Tunisia                          2- Tanzania 

  • SERVICE ANIMALS (GUIDING DOGS) – SVAN 

    • Service animals (might be harnessed) are accepted in the passenger cabin, not occupying a seat, and should be seated at customer’s feet, subject to prior arrangements being made with EGYPTAIR AIRLINES by customer and they are exempted from any weight limitation, container requirements and accepted free of charge
    • Customers traveling with service animals are required to provide the related documents and obtain a booking confirmation/approval at least 48 hours before departure.
    EGYPTAIR accepts dogs only as service animals for carriage on its flights according to the following rules

    1. Service animal (SVAN) to all EGYPTAIR network (except USA & Canada)
    2. Service animal (SVAN) to Canada
    3. Service animal (SVAN) to USA

     SERVICE ANIMALS ARE ACCEPTED ON EGYPTAIR FLIGHTS UNDER THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:

    1. The  country travel information must be checked before your flight to determine the followings: 

      • If the service animal is acceptable or not. 
      • The  documents required by countries of entry or transit.
      • The age of the service animal, as the age shall remain subject to custom regulations at the country of transit and destination

    1. Holding a valid health and vaccination certificates, and/or entry permits if required: 
    2. The SVAN must be obedient and behave properly in public places.
    3. Seating is preferably beside a window seat at the back area.
    4. The SVAN should fit on the floor space in front of customer seat and not into aisle.
    5. Customer travelling with SVAN is forbidden to be seated in the exit rows
    6. The dog might be leashed or harnessed.
    7. The Customer may hold a fleece or vet-bed for the dog to lie on and also absorbent pads which can be placed under the fleece.
    8. It is highly recommended that the customer should hold empty cage for his service animal and will be accepted free of charge during the check-in procedures.
    9. If the service animal is too big to fit in the passenger cabin or being disruptive, then they must be caged and accepted in the aircraft hold as checked baggage free of charge, otherwise the customer will be offloaded.


    Note: The above mentioned rules are applied only for flights operated by EGYPTAIR and incase of Code-Share flights operated by other carrier, the customer must refer to the operating carrier to obtain their approval.

    1) Service animal (SVAN) to all EGYPTAIR network (EXCEPT USA & CANADA):

    Only Seeing-eye and hearing-ear dogs are acceptable as service animals trained to assist customers with visual impaired or hearing disabilities.

    SVAN will be accepted free of charge and exempted from any weight limitation or container/cages requirements.

    If the SVAN is disruptive, too big or acts in a hostile behavior then it must be caged and accepted as checked baggage free of charge, otherwise the customer will be offloaded.
    Holding a license or proof of animal is trained as service animal. 
    Holding valid health and vaccination certificates, and/or entry permits if required.
    Pit Bull breeds are not permitted as SVAN
    Only one service dog is acceptable per customer.

    2)Service animal (SVAN) TO CANADA:

    Service dogs perform a variety of tasks to provide support in activities of daily living for a wide range of disabilities, including guiding persons who are blind; alerting persons who have hearing impairments to the presence of people or sounds, such as an alarm or telephone; pulling a wheelchair; recognizing specific changes that happen before a seizure and alerting a person; and providing assistance to a person with posttraumatic stress disorder by providing a barrier against other people crowding too close to the person
    SVAN will be accepted free of charge and exempted from any weight limitation or container/cages requirements on flights to/from Canada and also on connecting flights with final destination /origin Canada according to the ATPDR rules.
    If the SVAN is disruptive, too big or acts in a hostile behavior then it must be caged and accepted as checked baggage free of charge, otherwise the customer will be offloaded.
    Holding a license or proof of animal is trained as service animal. 
    Holding valid health and vaccination certificates, and/or entry permits if required.
    Pit Bull breeds are not permitted as SVAN
    Only one service dog is acceptable per customer.

    3) Service animal (SVAN )TO USA:

    A service animal is as a dog, regardless of breed or type, that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of a qualified individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability.
    Psychiatric service animals will be treated the same as other service animals that are individually trained to do work or preform a task for the benefit of a qualified individual with a disability.
    Permitted on flights from/to USA and also on connecting flights with final destination / origin USA, in accordance with US D.O.T regulations.
    SVAN will be accepted free of charge and exempted from any weight limitation or container/cages requirements 
    Passengers require to remit a completed hardcopy or electronic version of the Department’s “U.S. Department of Transportation Service Animal Air Transportation Form” 
    The customer must hold a completed hardcopy or electronic version from the following forms as a condition of transportation: 
    a) U.S Department of Transportation Service Animal Air Transportation Form
    b) U.S Department of transportation Service Animal Relief Attestation Form

    The customer should print two copies from each form, one will remain with the customer and the second copy will remain with the counter agent or with the gate agent.

    Holding valid health and vaccination certificates, and/or entry permits if required.
    Approved of center of dieses control “CDC” must be applied online 10 business days prior to arrival; or written (or oral) statement that the dog has not been living in a high-risk canine rabies country for the past 6 months or since birth.
    Airlines may require a passenger with a disability seeking to travel with a service animal to provide the service animal form(s) at the passenger’s departure gate on the date of travel.
    Only two service dogs are acceptable per customer.


Note: The above mentioned rules are applied only for flights operated by EGYPTAIR and incase of Code-Share flights operated by other carrier, the customer must refer to the operating carrier to obtain their approval.

** Effective from 01 Feb 2021 , passengers travelling to/from USA are not allowed to travel with emotional dogs and will be accepted normally according to EGYPTAIR live animals policy (whether as pet in cabin (PETC) or life animal in hold (AVIH) with applicable charge).
